Carlsbad Marathon

**Here’s the First Giving pages… the ASPCA, and Greenpeace **

You know that scene in Fight Club when they are driving the car, and Brad Pitt is trying to make Edward Norton say what he wishes he would do before he dies?  This one…:

Regardless of the macho nonsense and pseudo-philosophy in that clip, it’s something worth thinking about.  Mine were always run a marathon and write a book.

With that in mind I have registered to run my first marathon in January 2012.  This one, down the road in Carlsbad.  Knowing my ability to procrastinate running the marathon may prove easier than writing the book…

I run regularly as it is, and will be starting to train in earnest in November, when it gets a little cooler here.  I reckon that a little over 2 months to get ready for a marathon distance should be enough, providing I keep exercising regularly until then.

In the spirit of mass accountability, and in an attempt to provide myself with greater motivation, I am going to be raising money for a couple of charities. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), and Greenpeace.  Two very deserving charities, and two organisations doing work that is close to my heart.  If you would like to donate something, I would appreciate that very much.

Here’s a picture of my dog to encourage you, she was a street dog in Costa Rica for those who don’t know.  When she turned up outside our place she was very sick, and had recently had puppies.  With the help of our neighbours we managed to get her healthy again and brought her to the US when we moved here last year.  Now we wonder, ‘Who rescued whom?’

I will keep you updated on my progress as I prepare myself for the run.  And will post more pictures of Rocky to encourage you to give some more money, and help animals who can’t help themselves….!

Right, off for a run.

Here’s those First Giving pages again… the ASPCA, and Greenpeace.  If you can donate something, it would really help with my motivation…
